Picosecond resolution in amplitude cross-correlation experiments with nanosecond sources

Abstract

Although ultrashort laser pulses are usually needed for the optical exploration of ultrafast relaxation processes, it is known that the same time resolution can be attained with long duration pulses, provided their coherence time τc is shorter than the investigated process characteristic time. A time delayed four-wave mixing configuration is then used.
