Abstract
Two-beam coupling in high gain photorefractive crystals is extensively studied for various applications in optical signal processing and laser beam control. In most experiments conditions are created to transfer energy from one beam to the other. However, in interactions where the beams are nearly collinear the nonlinear medium self-diffracts higher orders. Besides this, a self-generated light beam propagating along the bisector of the two beams is also observed (Fig. 1).
