Abstract

A fiber Raman amplifier(FRA) which amplifies light signal by means of stimulated Raman scattering in a single mode optical fiber is of great interest for application in optical communication systems. In this paper, several features of the forward FRA and the backward FRA are described, and the performance of optical fiber transmission systems using a FRA is discussed.
