Abstract

Spatially phase matched one photon resonant and degenerate multiwave mixing [1, 2] in a diffraction configuration has been done in SF6 with a CW CO2 laser. Resonance was obtained with the 60MHz tunable 10.6μm P(18) line of a CO2 laser overlapping the A21 P(33) line of SF6 which has[3]: Doppler linewidth of 29MHz, a collision broadening of 17MHz/Torr and a saturation intensity of 8W/cm Torr2. The experiments were done according to figure 1. A process depending on χ(2n+1) may interpreted as the absorption of n photons from the beam IF, along with n photons emitted in beam IP and then the absorption of one photon from IB to be emitted as the diffracted beam ID, all events at the same frequency ω. Accordingly, the nonlinear polarization will be phase matched for the direction KD+n(KFKP).
