Abstract

Po1y-3BCMU is one of polydiacetylenes which are very much interesting because of their large optical nonlinearities, ultrashort T2,[1] and phase transitions which induce dramatic color changes.[2] In order to elucidate the large nonlinear optical constants and short relaxation time it is of great importance to study the decay kinetics and transient spectra. We studied time-resolved absorption spectrum of poly-3BCMU cast film from femtoseconds to microseconds. Three relaxation processes with time constants of a few picoseconds, 100 ps, and 80 ns were discussed in terms of kink, polaron, and another long-lived intermediate which induces band depletion.
