Abstract
There has been much interest in optical homogeneous linewidth of rare-earth ions in glass for past decade since it shows quite different temperature dependence when compared to that in crystalline host1). Shelby2) measured the homogeneous linewidth of Nd3+ (4I9/2↔4G5/2,2G7/2) doped in ED2-glass with an accumulated photon echo technique, and found that it follows a T2.2 temperature dependence. This T2 behavior has been reported for other rare-earth ions in glass by using hole burning, fluorescence line narrowing and photon echo techniques1).
