COLLISIONAL MIXING OF THE COPPER-VAPOR LASER LEVELS

Abstract

Recently we reported on the first observation of collisional mixing between the two upper laser levels (2P3/2 and 2P1/2) of the atomic copper system [1]. It was observed, for instance, that, when the lower level (2P1/2) is excited for the yellow laser transition by a resonant laser beam at 327.4 nm, the upper level (2P3/2) is also excited, generating a green laser beam.
