Abstract

With the recent investigations of the optical nonlinearities of composite materials and small particles and, in particulars semiconductor-doped glasses and their potential use in fast optoelectronics, much attention has been focused on the optical properties and the dynamics of photo-excited carriers in semiconductor microcrystals. We present here results of a direct time-resolved observation of photoexcited carriers recombination in commercial semiconductor-doped glasses confirming the role of Auger recombination, as well as preliminary results of investigations of the linear and nonlinear properties of experimental glasses exhibiting quantum confinement.
