Abstract
In Na vapor, we studied ASE and parametric four-wave mixing (FWM) involving two-photon resonant 3s → 4d transitions and near-resonant stimulated Raman (SR) down to 4p states. Conversion efficiencies for IR and UV generation through and near 4p levels were measured over a wide range of Na density and pump laser intensities to reveal a process which eventually limits IR and UV generation. Additional interest in the processes stems from recent observation1 of ASE suppression from the Na 3d state due to a cancellation effect between four-wave mixing and ASE.2
