Quantum-noise reduction using an optical parametric oscillator

Abstract

To stabilize the intensity of a laser beam below the shot noise level with the help of a feedback loop, it is not possible to use a mere beam splitter to deviate part of the beam onto a photodiode to monitor the beam intensity, because the beam splitter introduces additional quantum noise.
