First principle theory of the excitonic optical Stark effect in semiconductors

Abstract

We present a theory of the nonresonant nonlinear optical response of semiconductors that includes for the first time, we believe, excitonic effects and which quantitatively explains the recently observed dynamic Stark shift of the ground-state exciton resonances in GaAs quantum wells.1,2
