Abstract

We present experiments to investigate momentum transfer between atoms and a standing wave radiation field in the case where the atoms initially have a velocity component up to 2 m/s along the k vector of the standing wave. We also present a theory which yields an analytic expression for the final momentum distributions as a function of this velocity component.
