Abstract

We measured the gain enhancement in an excimer-pumped Raman amplifier and compared it to the theoretical prediction of the multimode fixed- random-phase model. The experimental apparatus is detailed in Fig. 1. The XeCl pump laser is an injection-locked Lambda Physik EMG-150ET. The spatial profile of the pump beam was clipped with a 5-mm aperture to obtain a diffraction-limited beam. The linewidth of the XeCl beam was measured with a Michelson interferometer and determined to have a halfwidth at 1/e of 0.56 cm−1. The beam diameter of the pump in the Raman amplifier cell was ~0.38 mm (FWHM).
