Tunable far-infrared laser theory: the dressed-atom approach

Abstract

We consider the double Raman processes of a four-level system interacting with two laser fields as shown in Refs, 1 and 2. The dressed formalism3 is used to transform the density matrix element equations of the bare states into those of the dressed states, which is solved by perturbation theory. The small-signal gain of the system is obtained as follows.
