Short-wavelength lasers pumped by Auger decay

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A gain of e7 was observed in a new short-wavelength laser at 109 nm. A population inversion was created by selective Auger decay following inner-shell photoionization of xenon. A gain of 90 nm in a similar system in kyrpton has also been observed.
