Abstract

The far-IR free-electron laser (FEL) at the University of California—Santa Barbara (UCSB) has been developed to the point where some preliminary scientific studies could be attempted. The experiments were carried out inside the FEL electrostatic accelerator laboratory and hence must be remote controlled. (A photon-user laboratory contiguous to the present facility will be completed by Fall 1986.)
