Abstract
Four targets were irradiated with 0.35-μm laser light using nominally a 1-ns 20-kJ square pulse. Three shots which gave neutron yields of 0.95-1.1 × 1013 used approximate tangential focusing (8-9R). One target produced half that yield when the beam spot on target was reduced in size (6R). No difference in yield was observed for converging compared to diverging illumination.
