Pulse compression, optical bistability, and other effects in ultrashort laser pulse propagation in nonlinear heterogeneous media

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Considerable compression of the mode-locked Nd:YAG laser pulse propagating through a suspension of glass particles in CS2 and nitrobenzene has been observed. Bistable reflection and other effects due to suppression of nonlinear Rayleigh scattering are also reported.
