Use of the beat-wave acceleration concept to improve the range of charged particle beams

Abstract

The possibility of applying the beat wave accelerator concept to extend the range of charged particle beams propagating in air is examined. By offsetting the drag experienced by charged particles moving through a background gas or plasma, the accelerator can reduce the rate at which particles are scattered out of the beam.
