Abstract

A theoretical estimation of gain spectra in semiconductor lasers has been performed with two different approaches: (a) the assumption of a definite energy conservation in an optical transition between two quantum states in conduction and valence bands, represented by a delta function,1 and (b) the use of a Lorentzian function, representing collision broadening of the quantum states.2
