Abstract

Generation of UV1 and VUV2 radiation by multiwave parametric mixing in a Raman medium is an interesting process whose basic physics is only partially understood. Although there have been various reports of conversion efficiencies for this UV frequency conversion process, there have been no systematic experiments done with well-defined input laser parameters. These measurements are important data for theoretical modeling of this process. We present here the first detailed experimental measurements of conversion efficiencies using a variable pulse length YAG laser (1–15 ns) at 532 nm that has a Fourier-limited bandwidth and near-diffraction-limited beam quality.
