"Holey Stokes!: Stimulated Raman Scattering With a Tightly Focussed Pump"

Abstract

In this paper we report a new wave propagation theory and its experimental verification for stimulated Raman scattering with a tightly focussed Gaussian pump beam. We have found that our previously obtained exact solution for homogeneous (exponential) wave growth in media with focussed Gaussian gain(1) may be extended to include coupling and growth of anti-Stokes and Stokes modes to the prescribed pump wave. The new work fully incorporates the interplay between diffraction, parametric processes and homogeneous growth, and also has a formally exact (and numerically rapid) solution. The intensity-dependent dispersion associated with the Raman gain resonance is incorporated and is essential to the proper description of the process.
