Frequency Jitter and Linewidth of a Single-Mode Monolithic Nd:YAG Laser.

Abstract

The short-term frequency jitter of a single-mode solid-state laser is caused mostly by fluctuations of the optical length of the laser resonator owing to mechanical vibration and acoustic noise. This jitter can be greatly reduced when the resonator mirror coatings are applied directly to the Nd:YAG crystal. The coupling of mechanical and acoustic room noise into length fluctuations of the Nd:YAG crystal itself is small.
