Ultra-Low Energy 1D Silicon Photonic Crystal Electro-Optic Modulator with Sub-100- mV Switching Voltage

Abstract

We demonstrate a 1D silicon photonic crystal electro-optic modulator with the lowest reported switching and holding energies at GHz speeds. The device operates with only 50 mVpp, and provides the first demonstration of sub-100-mVPP operation.
