Abstract

We combine a highly efficient nanoscale photonic guiding approach with a robust modulation principle, utilising novel electro-optical material and numerically demonstrate an active field-effect photonic modulator having an unprecedented short length of approximately 100 nm operating at telecom wavelength. The design promises a realisation of highly-integrated electro-optical circuitry for integrated photonics applications.
