Mode Order Converter Using Tapered Multi-mode Interference Couplers

Abstract

Tapered MMI devices are proposed. It is demonstrated that the proposed single-stage MMI device's output power efficiency can be 55% higher than a conventional adiabatic taper by partially capturing the 2nd order mode power.
