Abstract

We report on the design and fabrication of a 10Gbps optical interconnection module that has been incorporated as a part of an optical printed circuit board (O-PCB) for CPU-and-memory optical interconnection in a computer system. Serialized electrical bus signal is replaced with the O-PCB interconnection module to provide high speed optical interconnection between chips over four waveguide channels up to 10Gbps on each. The waveguides are fabricated out of polymer materials via embossing technique. We describe the structure, assembly and the performance of the O-PCB module. 2005 Optical Society of America
