Electrically Tunable Chip-Scale Semiconductor Microdisk Phase Modulators

Abstract

We have demonstrated a 12 micron radius InP optical microdisk resonator functioning as a phase modulator in an external Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The device’s small Vn characteristic make it attractive as a low power chip scale modulator.
