Abstract
A fourth order (in time) unconditionally stable alternating direction implicit (ADI) method for the wave equation is developed in this paper. Compared with the second order ADI schemes for the wave equation, the fourth order method is only twice more expensive in each step, but the step size can be much larger for a given accuracy.
