Photonic Band Gaps on Cascade Discontinuities in Optical Waveguides: Application to Optical Devices

Abstract

In the present work, the authors investigate the complete electromagnetic scattering caused by single and multiple abrupt discontinuities in arbitrary planar and channel integrated optical waveguides. This method is focused on a new concept of Generalized Scattering Matrix Method (GSMM). The calculation of the total GSM needs two steps: a) Optical waveguides proper modes analysis, b) GSM evaluation of single and multiple discontinuities.
