Abstract

The external modulator is an integral part of optical communication systems, since direct modulation of the laser source results in spectral broadening. The Mach-Zehnder interferometric optical modulator is currently the most widely used device. However, the response function of these devices, and the coupler modulators are nonlinear, and also the switching voltages, V„, remain high. Several studies on reducing the distortions by improving the linearity of external optical modulators have been reported [1-3].
