Photonic Crossconnects

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Large photonic switches are critical elements in truly reconfigurable DWDM networks by offering an intelligent and rapid way to provision wavelengths and fibers. There are many technologies being use for photonic switching. Most of the planar (2D) technologies are well suited for small switching, particularly protection switching. 3D MEMS technology scales well to very large switches with port counts of 2000 or more.
