Abstract
Planar silica integrated optical components, such as AWGs and VOAs, provide not only key enabling functionality but are also able to meet the channel count and bitrate demands of new high capacity DWDM systems. The design and manufacture of optimized devices will be discussed with particular emphasis on the system requirements such as spectral bandwidth, chromatic dispersion, differential group delay and insertion loss.
