Planar waveguide ytterbium laser in Al-doped germanosilicate

Abstract

Ytterbium/aluminium-doped planar waveguide lasers in germanosilicate on silicon are reported. The lasers use UV-induced Bragg gratings in a DBR configuration, and operate at 1042 nm with a maximum output power of 19 mW.
