Abstract

We report on polarization mode conversion in ~10-µm-thick zero-order half-wave plates of lithium niobate obtained by crystal ion slicing. Extinction ratio in excess of 27 dB was measured with a 3-dB-bandwidth >80 nm at 1550 nm, and excess loss of <0.08 dB.
