Abstract

Monolithically integrated spot-size converters (SSCs) are increasingly being considered [1-5] to expand the narrow spot-size of an active semiconductor guided-wave device within a Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) so that efficient coupling to a single mode fiber (SMF) with a relatively larger spot-size can be made.
