Photoinduced Refractivity in Germanosilicate Waveguides

Abstract

A new method for obtaining lateral confinement and modifying the propagation characteristics of thin film waveguides is described. It is based on optically-induced changes in the refractive index of germania-doped silica. It is an extension of previous work on side-written Bragg gratings in fibers.1
