Digital vs. Analog Photonic Integration

Not Accessible

Abstract

In the last decades the complexity of Photonic Integrated Circuits has increased by almost two orders. Complex PICs reported so far operate in an analog way, which impedes a further increase of complexity. Just like in micro-electronics digital operation allows for much larger integration. In the presentation analog integration will be reviewed, digital integration is discussed and a comparison is made between photonics and electronics.
