Abstract

Photonic simulation faces many challenges, most notably that the broad scope of applications does not lend itself to a single basic building block, material system, physical process, or even size scale. Thus, various simulation approaches are needed, as well as a unified way of describing the problem, driving the simulations, and exchanging results between them. Presented here is an integrated set of methods for device simulation (FDTD, BPM, FEM, RCWA, EME, PWE), calculation of multiple physical processes (electro/thermo/stress-optic and active carrier transport), high-performance computing, and multilevel connection to system simulation.
