The purpose of this talk is to review some new computational methods for freeform optical designs of refractive and reflective systems in 3D with capabilities to redirect an input beam of rays of a source and redistribute its radiation intensity so that the output beam illuminates a specified target surface (or a region in the far-field) with a prescribed in advance output intensity over that surface. Optical systems with one and two refractive/reflective surfaces will be considered. The emphasis will be on rigorous approaches and provably convergent and efficient numerical methods.
