Abstract

In our digital age, digital projector and its application is gaining its significance, especially in home theater area. Compared to common seen data projector, we have to pay more attention to the enhancement of both definition and contrast for the design of home theater projector. This will complicate the optical design of the projector. In this paper the lens design samples given were focused on the application of projector with DMD (Digital Micromirror Device )system. With DMD device, there are three different optical engine design at this moment; non-telecentric, telecentric with TIR (Total Internal Reflection) prism and Field Lens Type. Lens design for TIR prism will be discussed in this paper. These lenses have the telecentric design on the image side because of the TIR prism. Different lens design layouts and its possible limitation regarding performance, F-number and zoom ratio will be further discussed.
