Laser-matter processes driven by non-homogeneous fields: the high-order harmonics generation case

Abstract

We present theoretical studies of high-order harmonic generation (HHG) produced by nonhomogeneous fields. This kind of fields appears when a plasmonic nanostructure is illuminated by a short laser pulse. Our predictions are based on two of the most widely used approaches: the numerical solution of the time dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE) and the semiclassical approach known as Strong Field Approximation (SFA). Both approaches predict comparable results and show the new features, but using the semiclassical arguments behind the SFA, we are able to fully understand the reasons of the cutoff extension
