Two-photon autofluorescence imaging of retinal structure and function in the living primate eye

Abstract

The retina contains endogenous fluorophores (e.g. NADH, retinoids and others) that are natural markers for physiology and morphology. Adaptive optics assisted two-photon excitation was employed to record fluorescence from these molecules throughout the retina in living macaques.
