Abstract

We show that by incorporating a Ge stripe with a photonic crystal waveguide operated at a slow-light mode, the absorption coefficient can be enhanced to ~ 0.8 dB/µm at 1600 nm wavelength, which is about 1 order of magnitude improvement compared to bulk Ge.
