Abstract

The initial results from continuing long-term field measurements of the local Brillouin spectra in buried/hung cables up to 140 km using a BOTDA are presented. The use of these results to estimate residual strain after fiber cabling is discussed. To ensure the lifetime of fiber cable, the residual strain during manufacture must be reduced.
