Increasing optical bandwidth in multimode fibers using space division/spatial domain multiplexing

Abstract

A novel MIMO scheme using spatial domain multiplexing/space division multiplexing (SDM) is used to quadruple the bandwidth of standard step index multimode optical fibers. This presents multiplexer setup and results for four channel SDM architecture.
