Field Tracing for Unified Optical Modeling

Abstract

In field tracing electromagnetic fields are traced through optical systems. It unifies modeling techniques ranging from geometrical optics to electromagnetic approaches and enables the simulation of systems including e.g. diffraction, interference, partial coherence, and polarization. The technique is introduced and demonstrated for different modeling examples with the optics software VirtualLab™ [1].
