Epsilon-Near-Zero Metamaterial Emitters for High Efficiency Thermophotovoltaics

Abstract

We propose metamaterial thermal emitters capable of producing omni-directional emission near the blackbody limit over narrow spectral ranges. We show that in thermophotovoltaic devices these emitters will allow energy conversion beyond the Shockley-Queisser limit.
