Abstract
Raman microspectroscopy is utilised for fast, noninvasive detection and characterization of algal cells in a liquid cultivation medium. We demonstrate this method is capable to determine the iodine value of lipid storage bodies in living algal cells and in combination with optical sorting provides an efficient tool for optimal algal selection.
