Solid core photonic crystal fiber with ultrawide bandgap

Abstract

Using a simple model we argue that solid core microstructured optical fibers with high-index, ring-shaped, inclusions can have an uninterrupted bandwidth as large as an octave. We confirm this experimentally using a polymer optical fiber.
